Problem

This course was created as a submission for the April 2025 eLearning Challenge. Per the challenge, “The Head of Medical Services at Knotty Pines wants to modernize the delivery of bloodborne pathogens training. Per OSHA, this training is an annual requirement for all employees who come into contact with blood or bodily fluids. Knotty Pines currently administers training via worksheets that are checked off and filed with HR. This format lacks the practice and real-life care setting examples needed for employees to transfer safe practices back to the job.”

Solution

I created an interactive experience consisting of three short branching scenarios, each centered around tasks that nurses commonly perform on the job. The scenarios assess nurses’ decision-making skills in key areas such as PPE use, safe handling of potentially contaminated materials, exposure response, and proper disposal methods. Nurses who demonstrate safe practices can complete the training in just a few minutes, while those who make mistakes encounter realistic consequences and receive additional practice opportunities to reinforce correct procedures.
